Mall Restoration 3 ~ Drainage
The next part of the work is to improve the drainage, especially at the south end of the Mall near the old prison. During the winter months areas of grass are frequently flooded.
In the past the Scotch street & Pound rivers ran in parallel courses along the Mall. They are now piped underneath but the area always has been a marshy area. In the past floods have turned the whole Mall into one oblong lake on which a few locals even ventured onto in rowing boats.
